Monday:
Good day to all. I want you to start off with a survey. Hopefully you did not do this last week, but if so no big deal, you can still compare your results to mine and the rest of the class. This test is not meant to make you feel bad, just understand how incredibly lucky you are and what the world would be like if every other person was in your shoes. Go to this website, Ecological Footprintand fill out the survey. Be ready to share your results. Compare them to mine. I was as honest as possible on the survey. And now know that I am a horrible person. But, that is because I eat meat, use running water, and have toys with gasoline engines. See how much you consume and compare to my results below. You have 15 minutes to do this.

At 11:15 I will update the wiki with a link and PDF that you will need to open and use to compare how you composed your essay to a previously written response. See if you made viable points and used critical evidence in your reasoning. You will have 15 minutes to do so.

Now I would like you to evaluate your China's Coal Essay. Please read the prompt answer and compare it to your essay that you composed. You will need to fill in the Google form in order to compare your response to the book.

For the rest of the period you will be able to work on the next assignment, finishing up your presentation, and the homework. For the next assignment, you will need to write a pros and cons list for each renewable and nonrenewable resource talked about in the shared documents below. You may draw back on your notes from the air and water pollution units for this assignment.

Then as a group, each person will add their best pro and con to a group list provided on the shared document below.

For your homework you will be responsible for doing the review questions for Chapter 15 for homework. Please hand write out each question and correct answer for each. Please check your work for correctness when you are complete. Then take a photo with your computer and add it to the open document for the day.

Wednesday:
Good morning to all. I hope the day finds you well and that you get plenty wet in your travels from class to class. We have a fairly easy day lined up. You will be presenting to each other, ask one another some critical questions, and then be working on a study guide for Friday. I will be in class Friday and we will also have a study session after school Friday as well.

To get started, please upload everything that was asked of you to Monday's shared document. If you emailed me your notes that is fine, but be sure to upload the questions from Chapter 15 so I can grade all that work today. You have 5 minutes to complete this. Go.

As a warm up quickly read through this article, Energy Crisis and at the bottom of Monday's document write a two paragraph response. I want to know how you feel this is any different than the situation we are in now. You may do other research to help with your answer. Work on this warm up until 10:50. So, work fast.

At 10:55 let's start peer presentations. Go in order of presenters and see how many you can get through today. We will finish up on Friday. What is different about today's presentations is that you will have to formulate one question for each presenter and they will have to answer those questions for homework. Take five minutes after each presenter to do so. Use the shared document below to do so. Victoria will email the class a written script of what she would have said during her presentation.
Peer Questions and Answers for Group Shared Preso

I will see you all Friday.

Friday:
Good day to all. I hope this Friday finds you well. And I hope you have some big plans for the weekend. Get out and enjoy this beautiful weather. I celebrated yesterday by skiing Sierra At Tahoe after the storm. Nothing but fresh pow-pow everywhere. It was amazing. And then I drove home on The Golden Chain, Hwy 49, and that was beautiful as well.

Today is the last day of the quarter, so we have some work to do. Toward the end of the period, everyone will get some personal time with me to go over grades and missing work to get everything squared away. But first we are going to finish up our peer presentations and watch a short video.

After the peer presentations are complete we will watch a video about CO2 pumping and storage. You will need to compose a four paragraph response to the video when it is complete. The first paragraph needs to be a clear and detailed summary of what you watched. The second will need to be your feelings on how this new technology of CO2 scrubbing and pumping can and will be beneficial in terms of pollution, the use of coal, and sustainability for the future. The third paragraph will take some thinking outside of the box. You need to hypothisize potential negetive effects that this new process and technology may have. Name the implications it may produce in the future, and should we continue using it? And the last paragraph please describe how the research on biofuels is different than current practices and ethanol production. If it is possible, will it effect food prices and how? How will land use change in America?

If you were not in class today, you can find the video at this link.
Energy Consumption and Carbon Pumping

For the weekend you have a take home pre-test. Below is a PDF of Ch 15: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy from the Miller text book. You will be responsible for all the Review Questions to 25 except for #s 1,3,4,7,9,11, and 14. And Critical Thinking #4. You do not have to write the question, only the answers, but be sure to respond to all parts of each question.
